Double method of slashing energy bills and emissions
Campaigners say moving the clocks forward during winter to an hour ahead of GMT would save hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. They say it would make evenings lighter and reduce peak electricity demands. The study for the 10:10 climate campaign will be published in the journal Energy Policy. The campaign’s proposals would have a knock-on effect in saving on domestic fuel bills, as households would switch on their lights later in the evening, thus reducing consumption and money.
A Government approved method to save fuel costs (Carbon Trust, DEFRA and Energy Savings Trust) is a boiler management set-up where you simply choose the room temperature and the hot water you want, and when, and it does the rest. From day one it will give you energy bill savings of at least a quarter. Upgrading the system will create a powerful Building Energy Management System saving costs on lighting, controlling security and utilizing solar energy.
Glass vacuum solar tubes will knock a lot off fuel bills as about two-thirds of domestic hot water heating can be provided free from solar energy. The unit often pays for itself in less than six years and is the best value for the UK market.
